Our Spring Term in Year 6, with Wrekin and Hitchens Class is going to be a busy one, with lots of exciting learning and getting the children ready for SATs!
Our overview ‘Jigsaw’ gives an idea of what we will be covering according to the National Curriculum, during this current academic year.
This term our Topic is - ‘Invaders’ where we’ll be learning about the Anglo-Saxons and ‘Extreme Earth’, looking at how our weather ‘invades’ our land in the most extreme way, including natural disasters, the climate and weather. We are very excited to welcome a ‘real’ Anglo-Saxon at the end of January, who will give the children a hands-on learning experience.
We continue to prepare your child for secondary school. We will keep you posted regarding the local secondary school induction days (usually in the Summer Term). Children have been given a new ‘Planner’ for this term, to record their reading and homework. We would appreciate your weekly acknowledgement, by way of a signature.
Homework will continue to be given weekly, as before. Please see their Planner for details of homework given and when it is scheduled, to be returned. Feel free to comment in the planner, if you wish to communicate with your child’s class teacher. As a reminder, all homework given relates to work completed in class, so if they experience any difficulties with their homework, please encourage them to see the class teacher for help, prior to the date the homework is due.
We are having a real focus on reading in school this term. The more the children read – the better! Not only will this support all their learning in class, but it is true to say that children who read regularly are more often than not, good writers!
We would also ask that parents ensure that children are regularly using ‘Spelling Shed’ and ‘TTRS’ (‘Times Table Rockstars’) at home. These platforms really help and support children with their spelling and times table knowledge.
We suggest your child has their P.E. Kit in school for the whole week. P.E. with Mr. Leather, is scheduled for a Tuesday and Wednesday. Children are expected to have uniform P.E. kit, with suitable footwear – trainers used need to be in addition to those worn as school shoes. Tracksuits can continue to be worn this term. Earrings need to be removed or covered with surgical tape (they will need to bring this into school with them).
As a reminder, SATs week begins on the 11th May, 2020. This is the test period set by the Government.
If you have any concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child’s class teacher.
Thank-you for your support.
