Highley Community Primary School

Let’s all make mistakes in our endeavour to learn!

Welcome to Miners Class!

Our teachers are Mrs Gould and Mrs Cooper, and teaching assistants are Mrs Jones and Mrs Drye.

This term we are learning about 'People Who Help Us'. We will be having visits from a nurse, dental hygienist, firefighter, police officer, vet & paramedics.

Reception

In maths we shall be focusing on addition and subtraction within ten. We will expand our language and understanding of measure by comparing our feet with dinosaur feet and investigating how tall and long dinosaurs were.

In literacy we will consolidate initial sounds and move on to diagraphs (2 letters making 1 sound eg: sh, ch, th, oo). We will continue to blend, read and write cvc words, progressing to simple sentence writing.

We will be linking our topic across the Early Years curriculum through creative arts, physical education, communication and language, knowledge and understanding of the world and PSED.

Year 1

In maths we are continuing to learn number bonds to 5 and 10, number recognition and formation. We will then move on to addition and subtraction using pictorial, concrete and abstract resources.

In literacy we will continue to learn all set 2 sounds and will begin to introduce set 3. We will be using the "write stuff" program to improve our writing. Guided reading will be done daily with a teacher or teaching assistant. Please continue to read 5 times a week at home so we can work together to improve childrens attainment and love of books.

We will be linking our  dinosaur topic across the curriculum through arts and design, physical education, history and geography.
