Spring term 2019
During this term, Severn class have been working hard learning about the Mayan civilization. In English, the pupils have been studying the Mayan Myth, ‘The Hero Twins’, looking at the features within a myth to independently write their own. Currently, the class is looking closely at newspapers and their features, where they will write their own independent article based on the Mayans. The class have enjoyed learning historical and geographical aspects about the civilization, including where the Mayans came from, the chronology of the civilization, what they believed, and how they lived.
In maths, we have been developing their knowledge with factors, multiples, prime numbers and multiplication methods, where they will be deepening their understanding with division and fractions. The class have been working their way up the times table ladder, becoming quicker and more confident with calculations, where the class will be using ‘times tables rock stars’ to become secure with a range of tables. We are now embarking on a Rockstar Maths mission !
Science has been an interesting study, looking at inheritance and evolution. We have researched different dog breeds to see the differences and similarities, they have explored different adaptations and how offspring are similar and different to their parents.
The class have had a very busy physical education timetable, participating in the daily mile and a variety of sports including street dance, football, netball, dodgeball and cricket, building on co-ordination and teamwork skills.
Severn class have had a range of creative and varied opportunities and activities to participate in, including Boxercise, and Easter craft club and a school trip to Oldbury Wells for an arts day, which was enjoyed by all. We are also looking forward to visiting Bridgnorth Endowed School to watch High School Musical!
